Ski Across Gully Lake Wilderness Area
Saturday, February 5, 2011
10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Enjoy a gorgeous wilderness ski tour, crossing Gully Lake Wilderness Area, from Glen Road to Kemptown Road, near Mount Thom. This physically demanding 10-12 km adventure is for seasoned cross-country skiers only. We will travel across a succession of hardwood hills and along the valley of Juniper Brook and Salmon River. Much of the route follows a new hiking trail which has been developed by Cobequid Eco-trails Society (CE-TS). The 3,810 hectare (9,400 acre) Gully Lake Wilderness Area protects the largest remaining patch of mature forest in the Pictou-Truro area and was home to the Hermit of Gully Lake. Winter snow cover is fairly reliable.
Bring your cross-country skis, lunch, water, any safety supplies, and proper attire. We will need to shuttle vehicles between the Kemptown Road and Glen Road. Suitable for experienced and fit adults and youth over 16. Participants are responsible for their own transportation. Carpooling will be coordinated for those interested.
Pre-registration is required. Sponsored by the Nova Scotia Department of Environment-Protected Areas Branch. Pre-register by contacting Oliver Maass at (902) 424-2123, or email
