Agricultural Planning for the Clifton District Federation of Agriculture

Introduction

In 2003, The Municipality of Colchester was approached by the Clifton Federation of Agriculture to prepare agricultural land use policy. After a few false starts and a long break, the Municipality and the Agriculture Federation have completed a draft document.

Continuity is important when preparing planning policies. Rather than creating a separate planning document, it is proposed that the Clifton policies can be incorporated into the existing Central Colchester Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use Bylaw.

In essence the draft policies for Cilfton are intended to protect the farmers right to farm by establishing separation distances between incompatible, non-farm land use and farm activity.
