Moslem Cemetery

TMoslem Cemeteryhe Moslem CMoslem Cemeteryemetery is the first Islamic cemetery in North America, it is a small Syrian Muslim cemetery located on Pictou Road, Bible Hill. Established in May 1944, the cemetery was owned and maintained by the Muslim settlers who had immigrated from Syria/Lebanon and settled around the Truro/New Glasgow/Pictou area in the early part of the twentieth century.
The Islamic Association of Maritime Provinces of Canada continue to maintain this Cemetery and small Mosque.

Dominion Chair Company General Store

Dominion Chair Company StoreDominion Chair Company General Store The Dominion Chair Company was first built in 1860 and run by the Fulton brothers, George and William. The company took the name “Dominion Chair Company Limited” in 1903. The factory had a total of six fires between 1860 and 1989, after the sixth fire in 1989 the factory was not rebuilt. The Dominion Chair Company General Store, built in 1890, still stands today and continues to be used as a store.

Tatamagouche Creamery

Tatamagouceh CreameryThe property the Creamery was built on was purchased by Alexander Ross, who built and opened a creamery in 1925. The creamery was bought in 1930 by J.J. Creighton and was acquired  by Scotsburn Dairy in 1967 after Creighton’s death. The Creamery remained in operation until 1992, after which it was given to the Village of Tatamagouche, with the condition the exterior of the Creamery would not be altered structurally. The Creamery Building is now part of "Creamery Square", a Historic Waterfront Development site.

Bass River Lighthouse (Saints’ Rest Lighthouse)

Bass River LighthouseThis Lighthouse over looks CobBass River Lighthouseequid Bay, still standing but is not operational. Built and lit in 1907 by Samuel Beckwith, the lighthouse is a white tapered square wood tower. It was deactivated in 1992. It is only one of two lighthouses in Colchester County.


Five Islands Lighthouse

Five Islands LighthouseOn Minas BasiFive Islands Lighthousen, still standing but not operational. Has a wooden structure and was built at Sand Point during the winter of 1913/1914. Kerosene lamp was lit in 1914. The Minas Basin has the highest tides in the world and the land around it erodes continually. Due to this the lighthouse was moved back in 1952 and 1957. Deactivated in 1993, the lighthouse was moved again in 1996 to Sand Point Campground due to the erosion of land.  In 2008, the lighthouse was moved 7 kilometers away to Broderick Lane on Municipally Owned Land. It now acts as one of the main features of the Five Islands Lighthouse Park. This is only one of two lighthouses in Colchester County.
