In 1986, the County of Colchester started its first phase of construction on an 11 km gravity sanitary trunk sewer and a wastewater treatment facility. In 1995, the treatment facility went operational and replaced four smaller treatment plants as well as 11 outfalls. A fifth plant will eventually be phased out in the near future. This system presently handles wastewater from Truro, Valley, Salmon River, Bible Hill, Hilden, Lower Truro, Truro Heights and a small sewered area of Onslow. The County, in addition to its major commitment in the central region, also maintains other treatment plants in Tatamagouche, Great Village and Brookfield. |
