Stewiacke River Park
Stewiacke River Park is a quiet picnic park located beside the Stewiacke River. Majestic pine, hemlock and spruce trees shade the riverbank and picnic areas. Enjoy a walk along the trail by the river and watch for bald eagles commonly seen in the park. Share a picnic lunch with family or friends. Â
Park Facilities
large picnic shelter with barbeque (available June 2012)
6 covered picnic tables
walking trail
new playground
washrooms (including a wheelchair accessible, compost toilet)
changehouses
river access for swimming (unsupervised), boating and fishing
Renovations
Please note that some areas of the park are undergoing renovations. A new, timberframe picnic shelter is being constructed near the new playground. What was known as the "back" or "second" picnic shelter will be replaced with a redesigned picnic area. Pathways will be constructed to link these new facilities to the trail along the river. We anticipate that these renovations will be complete by June 2012. We apologize for any inconvenience.   Â
The Municipality of Colchester gratefully acknowledges the financial support received from Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations (Community ACCESS-ability Program) and Nova Scotia Health and Wellness in recent years for park upgrades. Projects funded include the new picnic shelter, accessible components of the new playground, and the wheelchair-accessible, Clivus Multrum compost toilet. Â
