What is a Community Solar Garden?
A community solar garden is a large installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels that generates electricity for the community. A solar garden generates and supplies electricity to the province’s main electricity grid to help power the buildings and homes of participating subscribers. If Colchester builds a community solar garden, roughly 300-500 households would be able to subscribe to receive a credit on their power bills equivalent to $0.02 per kilowatt hour (kWh) used by the household. This project would benefit the community by investing in local energy generation, increasing access to renewable energy, helping households save money, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Let's go solar, Colchester!
