New Online Permit System 
In partnership with Clariti Launch, the Municipality of Colchester’s permits are going online. The new permit system is available for all municipal permits including; building, development, sewer, driveway, frontage culvert, water, solar, and demolition permits along with civic numbers and sign requests. Apply, pay and check your permit status online from your own account! This platform will allow you to send messages to staff and submit documents that are required for your permit as well as forms and downloads.
When do I need permits?
- Any new buildings includeing new homes or mini homes.
- Relocating a dwelling or mobile home.
- Building an addition onto any building.
- Building a garage or storage shed.
- Any structural renovations to an existing building.
- Any structure that requires a power connection.
- Any change of use in an existing building. (ie. single residential to a two unit apartment or a new commercial use.)
- Contact the Development Officer for more detail on requirements for fencing, pools, and signs, etc
Permits are required for all types of construction, including additions. 
A building permit is required for all types of construction, including decks.
If you are located in an un-zoned area, a storage shed under 215 sq ft does not require a buildig permit, unless power is to be connected to the building.
