Notice of Approvals

TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Municipality of Colchester, at two (2) hearings held on May 28, 2026, approved the following:

1) Hearing 1 – a request by Scott Hill of Import Heaven Auto Services, for a map amendment (rezoning) to the Colchester Land Use By-law for property located at 803 Union Rd #2, Greenfield, PID 20045761, to allow a 10-acre portion of this 100-acre property to be used as a salvage yard. The amendment changed the zoning from Rural General to Rural Industrial.

2) Hearing 2 - Administrative Amendments to the Colchester Land Use By-law to address any inconsistencies, such as mapping errors, typos, etc., plus amendments to reduce ambiguity for staff, applicants & the public within the documents since its adoption in June of 2025.

Amendments for both approvals are posted on the Municipal website at www.colchester.ca/planning under Current Applications.

Each decision may be appealed to the Nova Scotia Regulatory and Appeals Board withing fourteen (14) days of the date of publication of this notice. https://nserbt.ca/nsrab/mandates/municipal-planning-appeals.

Tax Sale - Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 10:00 am

Please note, the Municipality of Colchester will be holding a Tax Sale in Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 10:00 am at the Truro Legion (42 Brunswick Street).

Wind Projects Community Benefit Fund – Call for Applications

The Truro Heights Community Wind Project and Truro Millbrook Community Wind Project Community Benefit Funds are funded by the wind projects and support local community groups and initiatives in the communities of Hilden, Truro Heights, Lower Truro, and Old Barns, within the Municipality of Colchester.

Funding applications will be accepted from locally based registered charities, not-for-profit organizations, schools, and individuals or groups from these communities at the discretion of the fund administrators.

Categories for funding include:
• Environmental enhancement;
• Social Welfare;
• Arts & Culture;
• Health & Wellness;
• Education and Science; and
• Emergency Relief.

Funding is not intended for ongoing operations or expenses, but to fund projects, special events or initiatives.

Several grants are available, and individual grants between $100 and $10,000 are typically awarded. Amounts above $10,000 will be considered where the project demonstrates significant community benefit.

Note: Organizations that received funding from this program in 2025 must submit a final report to be eligible for 2026.

Deer Population Research Starting April 2nd

Starting April 2, 2026 and continuing throughout the month the Municipality will be conducting deer population research in the communities of BIBLE HILL, VALLEY, BROOKSIDE, SALMON RIVER, LOWER TRURO, TRURO HEIGHTS and HILDEN.

Please note, to complete this work our wildlife consultant may be required to pass through private property. We appreciate the community's cooperation as we conduct this important research. If you have any questions please contact the Municipal office.

Volunteer Opportunities - Committee Vacancies

The Municipality of Colchester is seeking volunteers to fill vacancies on the following Committees for balance of the 2024-2028 term of Council (ending October 2028):

  • Citizens Monitoring Committees (for Wind Turbines): citizen representatives for the Higgins Mountain Project;
  • Debert Water Utility Advisory Committee: citizens must be serviced by the Water Utility (1 vacancy); and,
  • Tatamagouche Water Utility Advisory Committee: citizens must be serviced by the Water Utility (1 vacancy).

New Public Water Station Now Open!

The Municipality is pleased to announce the opening of a new public water station located at 84 Tidal Bore Road in Lower Truro. This new facility provides treated water from the Town of Truro’s water supply network and is free for public use.

Colchester residents have consistently expressed the importance of reliable access to safe, clean drinking water, particularly during periods of drought. This new water station enhances the community’s resilience during dry conditions while ensuring a dependable and safe source of drinking water for residents.
