Stewiacke River Park

This beautiful picnic park is a hidden gem beside the Stewiacke River.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) update June 26, 2020: Stewiacke River Park is open, the playground and all washrooms are open, and the outdoor water tap is operating. 

Take precautions to protect yourself and the people around you.

  • Stay home if unwell.
  • Keep 2 metres apart from other family/social groups.
  • Clean your hands often.
  • Avoid spaces where there are a lot of people.
  • Avoid contact with surfaces.
  • Allow others to pass safely.

Discover Stewiacke River Park

  • Enjoy this natural, forested park with mature pine, hemlock and spruce trees.
  • Picnic with family or friends under the large timberframe picnic shelter or one of the many covered picnic tables.
  • Walk on the trail along the river and through the woods. (total length 2 km)
  • Rest at one of the benches along the paths.
  • Kids, you'll love the playground!
  • Watch for wildlife, including bald eagles commonly seen along the river.
  • Access the river for swimming (unsupervised), boating and fishing.

Know When You Go

  • 2020 Season: May 9 - October 12, daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (gate opens at 8:00 am and closes at 8:00 pm)

  • Free admission.
  • Accessibility: Some of the park is wheelchair accessible, including the main picnic shelter, two toilets and lower paths (crusher dust). The playground has WoodCarpet protective surfacing, a transfer station and ramps between decks.
  • Barbeques are available at the main picnic shelter and the back picnic area. You must bring your own charcoal briquettes.
  • Dogs must be keep on leash. Please pick up after your pet.
  • There are two wheelchair-accessible, composting toilets; one near the main picnic shelter, and one at the park entrance.
  • Changehouses are located near the main picnic shelter.
  • Hunting is not allowed.
  • Off-highway vehicles are not allowed on the trails.

Address: 528 Stewiacke River Park Road, Stewiacke East.

Location: Approximately 10 km from Stewiacke, 14 km south of Brookfield, and 28 km south of Truro. 

From Brookfield and Stewiacke, follow the blue and white signs to the park.

Directions from Truro/Brookfield:

  • Take Highway 102 Exit 12 (Brookfield) to Route 2.
  • Travel south on Route 2 approximately 7 km.
  • Turn left onto Alton Road.
  • Continue about 4 km
  • Turn left onto Stewiacke River Park Road.
  • Continue about 2 km to the park.

Directions from Stewiacke:

  • Take Highway 102 Exit 11 (Stewiacke) to Main Street (cross Route 2).
  • Travel through downtown Stewiacke (cross the railroad tracks) and veer left onto Main Street East (which becomes Cloverdale Road outside town limit).
  • Continue approximately 6 km to a stop sign.
  • Turn left onto Alton Road.
  • Continue about 2 km, then turn right onto Stewiacke River Park Road.
  • Continue about 2 km to the park.
